In this article I hope to explain how you can play your favorite DVD's on your Nintendo Wii. While the Nintendo Wii is a fantastic multimedia system there is one thing that holds it back from being one of the best multimedia consoles around and that is that it doesn't play DVD's. Nintendo wanted to solely be thought of as a gaming giant and therefore opted out of adding a DVD player to their standard system.
Luckily for us however, some pretty smart people were able to come up with a way that you could play DVD on the Wii. Now normally this consisted of adding a mod chip to your Wii console, but the downside to this meant that your mod chip voided any warranty that may have been still valid.
Now however you can play DVD on the Wii without the need of a mod chip and that means that your warranty will indeed stay intact.
The first step is to install the homebrew channel on your Wii; this is a relatively straight forward task. From here you need to install a small application call Mplayer, this will allow your Wii to act like a standard DVD player. The last step is to install a Dvdx loader program which enables the playback of DVD.
The whole process from start to finish can take less than 15 minutes if you have all the appropriate programs handy and it really is pretty straight forward and that is how to play DVD on the Wii.
Another great thing about having the ability to play DVD on your Wii is that when you install the software it allows you to play your own homebrew games, this includes games that work on the N64 and even the old NES ones and if you are really tech savvy you can even write your own programs to run on the Wii.
